Novi Sad, which will be officially the European Capital of Culture in less than three months, will present itself at the world exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai within the ‘Day of European Capitals of Culture at the Universal Exhibition in Dubai 2020’ programme, at the Italian pavilion.
Novi Sad will present itself at the international forum ‘European Capitals of Culture and the new European Bauhaus: how to build beautiful, sustainable, inclusive places’ on Saturday, 30 October, from 9 a.m., which will be broadcast on the Novi Sad 2022 Facebook page. Sara Vuletić, programme director of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project will speak at the forum.
Through concrete examples, the international forum will show how capitals of culture redesign our living spaces by bridging the worlds of culture and science, involving citizens and promoting accessibility. In this regard, Novi Sad will emphasize the network of cultural stations, as a unique model of culture, which includes institutions, organizations, artists and citizens and raises the spatial capacity of the city in the service of art and culture.
Cultural stations have played an important role when it comes to decentralization of culture in Novi Sad since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, providing support to the local scene, especially through last year’s competition ‘Artists. Now!’, as well as through the programme arches ‘Doček’ and ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ with the programs of various artists and organizations that are implemented every day, thus setting up a network of cultural stations as the city’s legacy, after the title year.
The forum, which will gather European capitals of culture for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic at such a major international event, is implemented by the Matera 2019 Foundation, with the support of the Italian Commissioner General and under the patronage of the European Commission. In addition to Novi Sad, Esch 2022 (Luxembourg), Kaunas 2022 (Lithuania) and Nova Gorica 2025 (Slovenia) will present themselves.
